Oscars
by Michael
There's no point in commenting on Alito so I won't. The Oscars came out and Woody Allen was practically shut out. I'm a bit surprised since "Match Point" got so much Oscar buzz. I've seen 4 of the 5 best picture nominees so I''m going to be bold and make some predictions.
Best Picture
"Good Night and Good Luck" and "Brokeback Mountain" are the two favorites. Both movies were very good. I would be happy with either one getting the Oscar. I think that "Good Night and Good Luck" is the better film, but "Brokeback Mountain" will win because it is such a ground breaking film.
Lead Actor
If Phillip Seymour Hoffman doesn't win, then someone stuffed the box. The other performances were good, but Hoffman wasn't just someone playing Capote, he WAS Capote.
Supporting Actor
Jake Gyllenhaal should get the Oscar. Without him, Heath Ledger has no one to play off of and there's no movie.
Lead Actress
Even though I haven't seen her performance yet, I think that Felicity Huffman will win this because Judi Dench and Charlize Theron have already won, singing is not enough for Reese Witherspoon to win, and Keira Knightley is still trying to be taken seriously. Being on a hit TV show on ABC (which is televising the Oscars) helps too.
Supporting Actress
This is a tough one. I'll go with Michelle Williams because she's in "Brokeback".
Directing
Another tough one. My dart board says George Clooney gets it.
That's the major awards. I'll eschew the rest due to lack of time and interest.
