Critical Pain in the Ass
by Michael
The recent incident at last month's Critical Mass bike ride in San Francisco has stirred up new opposition to bike advocates. The incident itself will probably boil down to a he said/she said situation. I doubt the driver was totally blameless, but that doesn't justify terrorizing children the way the bicyclists did.
Critical mass is a farce. What started out as a pro-bike demonstration has now become an anarchic romp through downtown SF full of eco-terrorists and thugs. The bike riders want respect and the right to share the road. But many of them act as though they don't have to share. They ride in the middle of the lane and refuse to give way to faster traffic. They curse at you and scratch your car if you have the nerve to call them out on their rudeness.
Many of the roads they enjoy so much wouldn't even exist if it weren't for cars. Now they're lobbying to make it illegal to drive on certain roads in SF. They also want to make it harder for cars to pass them, by requiring at least three feet of clearance. It's becoming ridiculous how much influence the bicycle coalition has garnered at both the local and state level of government.
The only good thing about this incident is that it will hinder some of the ridiculous pro-bike proposals that are floating around the state legislature. What politician wants to be associated with a group that is willing to terrorize kids to get their vigilante justice? Consider the three feet clearance law dead in the water.
