There's a video game based on the "Left Behind" series of fictional novels that encourages players to kill people who refuse to convert to Christ. Huh?! How is this different from teaching young Islamic radicals to kill infidels? This is not what Christianity is supposed to be about and it's definitely not what happens in the Book of Revelation.

It's beyond me why "Apocalypto" is at the top of the box office list. The movie is apparently full of historical mistakes including the arrival of "salvation" in the form of conquistadors and Christianity. Which is apparently the point of the film; that the savage Mayans were destined to be saved, by the Spanish. Chalk up the discrepancies to Mel Gibson's continued efforts to spread his own brand of catholicism that includes extensive revisionist views of colonialism.

That's what a certain Oklahoma senator would have us all believe. He's even has some "scientists" who back his claim. And sure, the evidence is not indisputable, but it is compelling. And how do you explain that more scientists agree on the existence and cause of global warming than don't? What do you mean turn the heater down, Senator? It's not even on.

We recently began using Netflix for movie rentals so I was very interested in the "60 Minutes" segment last night featuring the company's founder and CEO, Reed Hastings. The entire segment was well-done, but one thing that really caught my attention was the segment about the lack of call-in support.

It's funny how quickly this story progressed through the scandal cycle. Haggard initially denied any wrong doing. He then tried to divert the story to drug use only. Now he's practically admitted to everything. We were in Denver over the weekend and this is big story there for two reasons, Amendment 43 and Referendum I.

Jeffrey Skilling has been sentenced to 24 years in prison. I think the judge hit him with the big number because Skilling refused to acknowledge his guilt. I guess his arrogance wouldn't allow him to admit he was wrong despite the verdict. Now the appeals will begin. In the end it is unlikely he'll serve the entire sentence. He'll either get out on appeal, or get paroled early. That's how the justice system works for people with money.

Finally a law that requires hands-free devices for drivers using cell phones. I can't recall how many times I almost got hit on the freeway by some moron who has the phone on their left ear, and is too distracted to look left before veering into my lane. And if you honk your horn at them, they act like you're the asshole for not making way for them.
